Weekly News Updates concerning Landmark HS

Hello,

Last week, students crossed many frontiers, from literally visiting the Planetarium, to petting animals in Amishtown on a college trip to Lafayette, to presenting poems at the 9th grade poetry slams. I loved seeing the 9th grade class supporting each other and presenting such beautiful poetry. It's so brave and powerful to present a personal poem to the whole class, to read in your home language, to present for a chosen audience, or to hold space and be positive for classmates trying those things. I hope everyone who participated in these ways is proud of themselves. It made me very excited for what the 9th grade class will accomplish, as individuals and as a group, when you continue to push yourselves and support each other. Last week was also marking period 1 report cards and parent teacher conferences. We hold these early (a third of the way into the semester) so there's plenty of time to address any issues and meet your goals for the semester. Report cards were distributed 7th period on Thursday and will be mailed home. Students who need a copy should ask their 7th period teacher, and caregivers can ask advisors or Raymond (rquinones@landmarkhs.org | 212-647-7410) The next week and a half bring a lot of new experiences and challenges. This Wednesday is Career Day. Students will get to hear from two panels of professionals about their work. We are so grateful to the diverse professionals who are taking time out of their days to speak to us. I know I can count on everyone to be present (no phones!), respectful, and ask thoughtful questions. This Friday is our 1st school dance since the shutdown!! Huge thanks to our student council and PTA for putting it on. See Raymond with questions or for tickets. Next week, Monday to Wednesday is Arts and PBATs week. Much success to everyone presenting PBATs! This is a great chance to explore new things. There will be two school wide assemblies with outside performers. Students can also sign up here for workshops ranging from crocheting to basketball to writing conventions certification. It's also a chance to sign up for academic work time, if you need to catch up or art studio time to make art to supplement your PBATS and projects or create other projects. 9th graders can sign up to observe PBAT panels. SIgn up's are first come, first serve, so sign up ASAP. Taking advantage of Career Day and Arts and PBAT week workshops is a way to find and develop your passions - a main goal of your time at Landmark! To honor this, for purposes of our attendance challenge, period attendance will be doubled. As with Career Day, we are grateful for the hard work outside artists coming as well as staff members who planned extra workshops. We fully expect everyone's positive participation. I do want to remind you that any negative behavior would have an extra effect on our whole community - how we are perceived and the opportunities in and out of Landmark - and would therefore have stricter consequences. Enjoy, take full advantage, and then get ready for a well-deserved break! Announcements Landmark Store is live! Proceeds benefit our PTA. Many thanks to the PTA for setting it up.
